Michelle Sanchez-Wentworth

I’m a counsellor based in Brisbane with a Master of Counselling from Queensland University of Technology. My work is grounded in Narrative Practice, which means I approach therapy as a collaborative process. Rather than seeing problems as something ‘within’ a person, I’m interested in how the stories we carry, and those shaped by the world around us, come to influence our lives and relationships.

Before training as a counsellor, I completed a PhD in neuroscience and worked in academic research. While my focus has since shifted, this background continues to inform how I think about the brain, stress, and healing, particularly in how I hold space for complexity and uncertainty with care.

In my practice, I aim to create a space where people feel heard and respected, where the nuances of their experiences can be explored without judgement. I value working relationally, with the understanding that each person brings the unique expertise of their own life. My role is to offer support, curiosity, and reflection as we move toward what feels most aligned with your values and preferred way of being.

I offer flexible session options, including initial consultations, standard sessions, and extended sessions, all available online for your convenience. I also offer collaborative/constructionist supervision for practitioners seeking reflective, dialogical spaces to support their work. All sessions are available in either English or Spanish.

Initial Meeting (30min - Free)
Our first meeting is a relaxed conversation where we can get to know each other. This 30-minute session allows us to discuss what brings you to counselling or supervision and explore how we might work together. There is no obligation to continue after this session, it's an opportunity to decide if this feels like the right fit for you.

Standard Session (60min - $120)
In a 60-minute session, we will delve deeper into the stories and challenges you’re currently facing. Our work will be collaborative, focusing on exploring your strengths and unique perspectives, with the aim of identifying ways forward that feel meaningful to you. Each session is paced according to your needs, allowing space for reflection and dialogue.

Extended Session (90min - $180)
An extended session provides additional time for those who feel they would benefit from more in-depth exploration. With 90 minutes, we have the opportunity to take our time in understanding the themes or issues you are bringing to therapy or supervision, allowing for a more spacious conversation and reflection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from the first session?
Your Introductory session is a free 30-minute conversation where we get to know each other and see if working together feels like a good fit. You can share a little about what’s brought you to counselling, ask questions, and get a sense of my approach. There’s no pressure to continue, this is about making sure you feel comfortable and supported.

Do you work with all kinds of concerns?
I work with adults on a wide range of concerns, including stress, anxiety, grief, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and exploring identity. If I feel your needs would be better supported by a different professional, I can help you find a suitable referral.

How long are sessions and what are the fees?
Standard sessions are 60 minutes ($120). Extended sessions are 90 minutes ($180), which can be arranged if we decide together that more time would be helpful.

Do you offer in-person appointments?
At this time, I offer online appointments only, so you can connect from the comfort of your own space. Sessions can be held in English or Spanish.

How do I book and pay for sessions?
Once you register your interest through my contact form and we arrange your free 30-minute Introductory session, I’ll send you a registration package. This will include the privacy and confidentiality agreement, terms and conditions, and a secure payment link. You’ll need to provide your payment details before the Introductory session, but you won’t be charged for that first meeting. For any future appointments, payment will be processed after each session using the details you’ve provided.

What is your cancellation policy?
I understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a 50% fee, and missed appointments without notice will be charged at the full session fee.

Is what I share confidential?
Yes, what we talk about stays between us, except in rare circumstances where I am legally or ethically required to share information (such as if there’s a serious risk of harm or concerns about a child’s safety). I will always aim to discuss this with you first whenever possible.

What if I’m not sure counselling is for me?
That’s okay! Counselling is not one-size-fits-all. The first session is a chance to try it out and see how it feels, with no obligation to continue.

Do you offer crisis support?
